Postdoctoral position - Deep Learning for Medical Imaging

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a background in computer and/or data science or equivalent that are interested in the application of AI/deep learning in medicine.

Job description

Your main task will be to develop new methodologies for the application of deep learning to large databases of medical images for the purpose of disease diagnosis and outcome prediction. This will be done at the cross-section of medical specialties (including radiology) and deep learning / computer science. To achieve these goals, we have access to unique datasets from research institutions throughout Asia, the United States and Europe. This position is located in Maastricht and comes with additional support from the department of Precision Medicine at Maastricht University. A ‘zero-hour contract’ at Maastricht University with the department of Precision Medicine will be arranged.


We are looking for a positive-minded scientist with a PhD, fluent in English, both in writing and speaking and, preferably some experience as a postdoc and image analysis. Candidates must have a strong background in biomedical informatics, bioinformatics, computer science, data analytics, or (bio)statistics. Proven expertise in machine learning, in particular Deep Learning, and programming (Matlab, Python, R…) is required. The candidates must be able to drive their research agenda and be ready to write and submit grants. In addition, candidates should be able to work independently, and supervise projects/PhD students where needed.

Conditions of employment

The position is for a fixed term of two years. The salary will be based on the candidates experience and can amount to amaximum of € 4.978 (comparable to max scale 11 VSNU), depending on your level of education and relevant experience and based on a full-time working week of 38 hours. If you are a non-Dutch national the 30% tax rule may apply.
